About the Center
The Story of the Center
Dizengoff Center, Israel's oldest shopping and entertainment center, opened to the public in 1977. It is named after Meir Dizengoff, the first mayor of Tel Aviv, and was the joint initiative of Aryeh Piltz (of blessed memory), Avraham Piltz (of blessed memory), and Samuel Flatto-Sharon.
It was built in the vibrant heart of Tel Aviv, at the intersection of Dizengoff Street and King George Street. In 1977, the first store, HaMashbir Lazarchan, opened its doors.
Dizengoff Center was designed to be a natural extension of the fashionable Dizengoff Street. The architects, Aliza Toledo and Yitzhak Yashar, who won the Rokach Prize for the building’s design, envisioned creating the feeling of a "street within a street." The complex was designed as both a distinct and unique urban structure while seamlessly integrating with its surrounding streets. This is reflected in its spiral and sloped architecture. This unique design gives visitors the sensation of strolling through air-conditioned streets, creating an experience of exploration and wandering.
